Hannah Coleman from Dreamwall Style joins us this week to discuss the emerging trends for interior wall surfaces. As an expert who works in the field, she is well placed to see what people are doing with their homes to bring these new trends into their designs. She talks us through her own thoughts and what to expect at this years Surface Design Show…
“Surfaces trends are constantly changing, over the last year I have seen more textured eco-friendly surfaces appearing on to the interior market. Its great to see manufacturers are looking all the time for new eco-friendly solutions of manufacturing their products designs and are becoming more conscious of the consumers surroundings.
Another trend I noticed over the past year is a big increase in designs inspired by catwalk fashions, mixing the two worlds together.
Statement wall coverings might not be a new phenomenon, but feature walls over the past year have been classed as more rebellious and racy, more texture and bold colours have been added into these surfaces as they are not meant to blend but to stand out!

Classic patterns have made their way back into the interior design world, think ‘out of the attic’ lots of classic patterns dusted down and bought out of storage to revive a vintage revolution to surfaces, the idea is too mix these classics patterns with subtle chalky pastels.
Another surface trend that is proving very popular is taking inspiration from a jewellery box, think the words elegance, metallic, glamour, glitz, layers of luxury, sparkle, the idea is to mix these rich textures together with hints of silk and satin.”

“The Surface Design Show will be celebrating its 8th year as an event, the perfect paradise for forward thinking lovers of all things surface. Reviewing all the latest surfaces is one of my greatest passions and this year will be even more exciting as I’m also exhibiting at the event and launching my own range of surfaces.

Material Thinking
This years event is set to inspire, inform and excite… nothing in this world is achieved without thinking and Material Thinking will continue on from last year’s theme of trends in materials, shapes and design and what will influence the surface design industry over the next year.

Fringe Thinking
A good friend and influence of mine, Annabelle Filer of Scin, a real aggravator of all things surface, writer for FX Design and Grand Designs has been working closely with the Surface Design Show.
Annabelle has developed a programme to run throughout the Surface Design Show called ‘Fringe Thinking’. This programme will innovate and inspire all who will visit with special feature debates, seminars and presentations.
The Open evening event on the 15th sees the RIBA building inspirational live debate, followed by the hugely popular PechaKucha 20×20 a simple presentation format where participants show images, keeping the visitor excited and inspired.
Working Portraits
RIBA London has also teamed up with this year’s Surface Design Show. The collaboration has produced two new exciting events as part of the ongoing training for its members. “Working Portraits” provide case studies and discussions. A series of seminars will run across the event by RIBA CPD providers network giving invaluable informative insights to the future of surface design.

A very interesting collection of modern wallcoverings. I was looking for something like the Mini Moderns wallpaper.
Do you happen to know the price of this?
Came across this similar designer wallpaper from http://www.wallpaperking.co.uk which i think will do the job and the price seem quite reasonable.
