Last week, I caught up with Strictly Come Dancing star Claudia Winkleman over rather a glamorous (and entertaining) breakfast at Sketch with fellow style bloggers and journalists.

While her fashion style is impeccable, she admitted to me that her interior decorating is less than chic. ‘My house style is disgusting,’ she laughs over a chintz-y cup of tea. ‘Basically, we bought a house we can’t afford. The kitchen has faux granite and faux wood, the hob doesn’t work and I never have milk in the fridge. My poor children only eat dried cereal – the kids are always asking for milk for cereals but again, it was Alpen bars for them this morning.’

We were talking at the launch of the American Express Rewards card which allows shoppers to collect points as they spend which convert into points and then gift vouchers for stores including M&S, Molton Brown and Boots. As a self-confessed shopaholic, Winkleman has compiled a long Christmas wishlist – here’s a sneak peek: pastel coloured Roberts Revival radio, Cath Kidston mugs and the Hummingbird Bakery cookbook.

Winkleman’s New Years resolution is to pimp up her pad; she won’t be working between April and September next year when she will be renovating. ‘The problem is that I married a Danish boy who loves clean lines, pale wood and simplicity but I love frou frou and Cath Kidston. I like houses that have had a big bucket of white paint chucked at it with lots of candles and children running around.’
