I look forward to summer all year round – and this year I am preparing my home so I can embrace the sun whilst we have it. Here are my top tips for summer products to make your home feel fresh in time for that summer BBQ.

One of the simplest and cheapest ways of giving your home a makeover is with cushions and I love Imogen Heath‘s Dalia design for Heals. Her use of colour to me just screams summer! I’m already imagining a beautiful space with an open kitchen and dining room space stretching out into the garden… I would love to have these cushions sitting next to some of my bright wallflowers. These fabulous, colourful tumblers would look beautiful lit by a sunshine yellow downlighter in a conservatory or patio garden.

Sticking with the outdoor feel, birds are a still a huge trend and there is no sign of them going anywhere. I personally love British birds and my Great Tit lampshades and cushions were inspired by some great tits I had nesting outside my home last spring. They have been a huge hit and after looking really lonely for the past year I have now designed them a new family! The first design to be launched in June is of two plump, male bullfinches. Here is a sneak preview:

To finish off the BBQ I would have to have one of Emma Britton’s surface protectors. My personal favourite is her Yellow Foxglove, which would sit perfectly with a Joseph Joseph oil and vinegar set (so handy with their adjustable flow control for summer salads), complemented by a Memory of Falmouth salt and pepper shaker. My BBQ would be served on Elli Pop’s china plates and these would be lovely cleaned with the organic cotton bird in cage tea towel. What do you think? Who wants to pop round?!
