Grand Designs is back! The new series bounced back on to our TV screens a few weeks ago and we’re addicted already.

On top of this, last weekend also saw the hugely popular Grand Designs Live show return to Birmingham’s NEC. This year’s show was bursting at the seams with people shopping for home inspiration and trying to get a glimpse of the nation’s favourite self-build guru Kevin McCloud. mydeco managed to wrestle our way to the front of the crowd and secure an exclusive video interview with the man himself. Here’s what he told us:

My mid-week socialising has been put on hold as I’m glued to my TV screen every Wednesday night for the new series. The homes so far have been as varied and unique as ever and the format remains reassuringly familiar. First we have the initial optimism and the ambitious plans, closely followed by a mid-build drama and Kevin’s sceptical raised eyebrow to camera, before a finale where peace is restored and Kevin decides that, actually, he does like the building after all.

And not forgetting my favourite bit: the post-build review where the couple sit exhausted from sweat and tears on their new sofa and admit that actually, yes, they did go over budget and no, they probably wouldn’t repeat the experience.  Kevin, it’s good to have you back.

Coming soon: George Clarke, architect and TV presenter talks exclusively to mydeco. Watch this space…

Agreed, great to have Grand Designs back. I love his regular quote every episode: “personally, I’m not sure they can do it”!!

Grand Designs – top show for someone like myself whose in the trade, as well as anyone looking to take on a home building project in the future. What I always find interesting is the use of sustainable building materials and different types of renewable energy used on many of the houses.
