The Kitchen is one the most used rooms in the house.

It is also one of the most neglected. Most of us, when pursuing the house of our dreams, base our signing decisions on this room – yet it’s still one of the rooms in the house that lacks our care and attention.  It’s one of the most visited rooms in the house; it’s the laughing, joking, sharing and eating place,  so why not give it a little attention this Spring? I’m not talking about dusting the top of our cabinets or finally getting round to hoovering behind the fridge. I’m talking fresh new colour and maybe some new kitchen bling.

Fresh Spring kitchen

This yellow and blue country kitchen is just gorgeous. Full of Spring and life.

Covering up last year’s fry-up-gone-bad that ended up with a nice slick coat of soot above your splashback is easily done with a nice new coat of paint. Paint is the easiest way to bring new life to the drab and is relatively cheap.  Wallpaper isn’t the no-no everyone thinks it is for the kitchen – with the right paper it is also easily cleaned and can give your kitchen the kind of decadence it deserves. Make sure to choose the right size print on the wallpaper for the size of your room. If in doubt, go for plain, clean lines and with very little pattern. Wallpaper with a strong or fussy design won’t work well in a kitchen so keep it simple.

If you can’t afford to replace old cabinet doors, simply replacing the door knobs can give them a new spring in their step! Provided that you have cabinets made from the right materials, giving them a new coat of paint is also always cheaper than buying new ones.

Add more light to your kitchen with new lampshades and perhaps under cabinet lighting. Try your hand at upholstery by re-inventing your kitchen stool seat pads. Perhaps give the flooring new life with new tiles or lino. If you are lucky enough to have wooden floors, sand them down or give them a coat of paint.

Shopping for new utensils and replacing tea stained dish towels is always a good idea and the easiest to do. Replace old faded dull curtains with new happy ones or,  if it’s in the budget, slick new blinds. Add a vase of fresh flowers, a bowl of fruit and voila!  Your kitchen has sprung! Here are two of my favourite  kitchens my fellow Mydecorati have designed.

Ah this just makes me want to repaint and start over in my kitchen, I just love the sunshine yellow with the clean white, and that huge white kitchen is to die for.
