Summer trends are currently in full bloom, despite the miserable weather… In previous posts I’ve discussed the Tribal and Tropical trends, but one in particular that stands out most for me is the Flamenco trend. Featuring intense colours and shapes, it is a romantic and exotic trend, making a particular feature of the colour yellow – a colour really making its mark this season. Designer Blumarine has a stunning spring/summer 2012 collection showcasing a plentiful array of exotic flamenco inspired dresses with vibrant yellow accents.

As beautiful as it is, yellow is a colour that can be sometimes tricky to pull off when worn or implemented into a room design. A balance is needed when wearing yellow or using the colour within the home as it can look O.T.T. Yellow can be toned down when balanced with nude colours, or one can go to the opposite spectrum and combine ochre yellow with a burnt sienna, rustic brown or flamenco red to create a bold and exotic look.

The Flamenco Trend takes its influence from the sultry Spanish Flamenco dance which oozes passion and a strong Mediterranean warmth.

These vivid colours can also be combined (in sensible measures of course) with black and bright green. A great way of introducing this trend into your home is with soft furnishings – you can bring in a little of the look at a time until you feel ready to swap curtains for wallpaper and a paintbrush. It’s a fabulous trend which will not only look great in your wardrobe but in every room of the house.
