Read the latest interiors and style musings from our guest blogger, Ferm Living’s Christiana Coop:
I’ve been home in New Mexico this week visiting my family, which got me thinking about New Mexican interior design. There are so many quintessential elements: wool blankets, pine furniture, antlers, cowhide and adobe walls – which when taken all together might feel a bit too much. But, I think adding in a New Mexican design element or two into any living space can look really fresh when mixed with other styles.
To test this theory, I put together a moodboard that combines clean, modern lines with a classic chesterfield, some ferm living favorites and touches of New Mexico – a Navajo rug, a kachina sculpture, and Nambe barware. The best part? Don’t forget the Gruet sparking wine!

Here’s a round up of some of my favorite modern New Mexican must-visits. The Visual Art Center is a powerful statement in New Mexico modern architecture with bold angles and brilliant southwest-inspired colors.
The pioneer in modern New Mexican art, Georgia O’Keeffe, has her life and work showcased at the Georgia O’Keeffe Museum.
If you’re looking for chic New Mexican cuisine (think shitake and cactus spring rolls), you can’t beat Santacafe.
Need gorgeous, contemporary furniture with a southwestern flair? Head to my favorite, Santa Fe Modern Home. Seriously, how fantastic is that chair? It is the perfect mix of modern and New Mexican to me!
