London Fashion Week showcased an abundant collection of fabulous British fashion. Glistening metallics, as seen at the David Koma Autumn/Winter Collection 2012 and Matthew Williamson catwalks, were magnificently captivating.
The relationship between fashion seen on the catwalk and interior trends is ever-growing and beautifully narrowing. Transmitted straight from the catwalk into your home, one can see correlating trends relating to colour, print and texture. Fabrics and prints are becoming increasingly more versatile and one can find a floral print dress design or pattern taking the form of a bed throw or wallpaper and vice versa. An increase in the 60’s interiors trend is also apparent this season, where monochrome decor, heavy weaves and floral patterns are making a comeback.
As seen at this year’s London Fashion Week, Erdem’s Collection is delicately floral; this can also be seen in the Spring / Summer 2012 Collection. The same blue floral trend is highly popular among many fabric houses such as Lelievre where the Sonia Rykiel Maison Collection has a similarly fabulous design.
Metallics were the most popular trend among the various collections at London Fashion Week. Metallic finishes and silks provide a glamorous and sleek effect in both fashion and interiors. Designers Holly Fulton and Christopher Kane portrayed this element throughout their catwalk collections. The Metallic trend, especially the use of silks, is also highly popular in interiors this year. This trend in interiors is beautifully represented in The Spotlight Collection, a new collection of home furnishings created by designer and architect David Rockwell and Jim Thompson fabrics.
Many fashion designers are now collaborating with fabric and wallpaper companies to produce amazing designs and interior designers are actually becoming fashion designers themselves. Wallpaper prints are now a popular inspiration for clothing, especially dresses. This inspiration was seen at the Christopher Kane Spring/Summer 2012 Collection at London fashion week.
From the catwalk to interiors, there are many stylish ways of updating your interiors. Just take some inspiration from the latest floral and blue metallic trends and dress your home!
