Earlier in the year Chauncey Zalkin, founder and creator of What Women Make, savored the delights of the Milan Furniture Fair. She told mydeco readers all about the triangle trend she spotted and her favorite design discoveries – from bath tubs in a field to tornadoes in a vase. Today she shares her pictures of the Gothic and modern architecture in her own city, Barcelona, and how you can recreate the look stateside.

This is the view from Chauncey’s window – the architecture typical in Barcelona, with round windows, splashes of color and black wrought iron window balconies. These are small but add character and really open up the rooms when the shutters are drawn:

mydeco’s free 3D room planner now lets you add circular windows to rooms and to floor plans you upload. New mydeco community member kamo29 created a red and mono 3D living room just two days ago and used a circular window to emphasise the room’s focal point of the statement red sofa.

Second to Paris, Barcelona is famous for its touches of Gothic architecture, as seen in the black wrought iron railings above, and in the ornate mesh ironwork around these street lamps on Calle Ferran, Barcelona.

This more contemporary wall belongs to an architect’s studio in Barrio Gotico, Barcelona. The olive green paint, abstract shapes and graffiti-esque effect injects some quirkiness (characteristic of this young Spanish city) onto the building and draws upon the foliage in the surrounding window bays.
