Today Pia, our Design Director, completes her two-part post, with some more useful tips about lighting trends and how to style your home.

It’s important that you use your lighting to compliment your interior. Have fun with lights and don’t be afraid to do something different; there are some fabulous fittings on the market.

If you have a clean, uncluttered room, eye-catching table lamps can really draw the eye and show off a special piece. Or the table lamp can itself be the special piece – a great example is these quirky Abigail Ahern animal lamps.

Classic design is hugely in fashion – the Bestlite from Gubi is one of our favourite classic pieces and has a beautiful, timeless design with a great history. Designed in 1930 by Robert Dudley Best, these will last the test of time.

Use lighting to compliment your room’s colour scheme, with an injection of a contrasting colour or pattern into the space. There are some fabulous and original shade designs out there, which create a story by themselves.

Ceiling lights are currently really popular due to the vast selection of designs available. They can act as a focal point and work particularly well in kitchens and dining areas. They aren’t so good for making a room feel cosy, so they are more for show. To create the cosy feel, accompany your pendant with lower level lighting.

For more impact than a pendant light, try a chandelier - they’re great for making a real statement and also guiding the style of the room. They are especially lovely at this time of year.

Lastly, don’t forget to think about the bulbs you use, they can a big effect on the feel of the décor. If they are on display, go for the iconic plumen design or similar.

Overall, lighting can play a massive role in the feel and comfort of your home. So make sure that you give your lighting enough attention, and it will bring some lovely illumination to your life.
