For an authentic East London experience, nothing comes close to Columbia Road market on a Sunday morning. Jam packed with the best blooms in the capital, it’s a lively and pretty noisy affair (and not for those who prefer peace and quiet on a Sunday), with salt-of-the-earth Eastender types, shouting at the top of their lungs and all trying to outdo one another’s patter.
The market opens at 8am (spare a thought for the poor locals) and winds down at 3pm, but with pretty cafes and stylish shops lining the street, it’s a great destination for a day out.
With everything from exotic palms and Bamboo, to herbs and gorgeous flowers, the market is an inspiring place to source ideas from you home and garden and won’t break the bank either.
Our tip? Don’t be afraid to haggle! If you’re looking for a bargain, the prices start to drop at 2pm. One thrifty member of the mydeco team picked up six bunches of oxeye daisies for a tenner last week!
