Ah the life of a celebrity, something us mere mortals can only dream of. What do celebrities do to keep busy with all their money? Well apparently the latest celeb fad is designing homeware ranges. Those celebs like their fingers in all the pies – not content on dominating the fashion high street, with the likes of Kate Moss and Lily Allen designing for Topshop and H&M. It appears that everyone wants a piece of the interiors market.
To me, there seems to be three types of celebrity endorsed home goods. There are the credible ranges, the designer ranges and the ‘what on earth’ ranges.

Leaders in credible ranges are the celeb chefs. It seems a natural progression to bring out ranges of kitchen utensils and accessories – with Gordon Ramsey, Nigella Lawson, Jamie Oliver and King of the Jungle Gino D’Acampo all doing so. How did I cook before without George Foreman’s lean, mean, grilling machine?

Celeb interior designers like nothing more than adding their own products in your home. The likes of dandy Laurence Llewelyn Bowen, Linda Barker and Kelly Hoppen all have their own home accessory ranges. Closely followed by property expert Kirstie Allsop who has trinkets and doilies a lot of stores at the moment.

Gardeners also like to revamp your garden with their products. Television personality Alan Titchmarsh likes to add his own touch to your garden with his range of benches.
So ok, it’s perfectly understandable if you’re a celebrity famous for home design and you release a range of homeware. I can understand that, but fashion designers also dabble a little in interiors. Both Diane von Furstenberg and Zandra Rhodes have released a range of bed linens – probably spare fabric left over from the tiny amount they must use on their models.

Not a designer? But you’re at least in fashion, right? A model, that’s also has a passable interest in design interiors? The face of M&S, Twiggy, has released a range of bed linen; unfortunately for M&S she doesn’t actually retail it with them. Even Cindy Crawford likes to get in on the action with her range of, in my opinion, slightly garish furniture.

Fine, ok, I can understand the transition from fashion to interiors – design is design but letting any Tom, Dick and Harry into the interior elite just because of their name, to me, loses sincerity. When Kylie Minogue decided to dress your bed, that’s when you draw the line. Hopefully she’ll be spinning around right out of my house.

And what celebrity countdown wouldn’t be complete without good-old Katie Price. The fake tanned, self publicising media fiend released a range of bedding three years ago. In true Jordan style she’s managed to release another product with her name attached to it – just as pink and, dare I say it, pointless as all her other products.

C’lebs hawking their wares to the highest bidder. When will the madness stop?! I blame Linda Barker; she started all this craziness.
