Architect and TV presenter George Clarke is fast becoming a household name thanks to his televised programmes The Home Show and Restoration Man. mydeco’s creative editor Vicky is a fan (of his shows, not his clean-cut good looks and flirty charm, obviously) and she immediately clocked him munching a custard cream in the press room of Grand Designs Live in Birmingham. We only needed a two second ‘shall we, shan’t we’ huddle before grabbing him for an interview.

While George went off to wow the Grand Designs crowd, Vicky and I pushed past the throng to set up the camera in the in.it.studios garden display, where we had just interviewed Kevin McCloud. Just when we thought he had stood us up, he finally emerged from a book signing mob. ‘The mydeco girls always look glamorous,’ he said breezily as he shook our clammy hands. ‘Oh,’ we both whimpered. All was forgiven.
Naturally, he had a book to promote. George Clarke’s Home Bible (£16.99, amazon) is his latest literary offering and gives you a tour of his newly renovated home, from its gutting to the last mug in the cupboard. It’s also full of architectural tips, especially for reconfiguring your own space to suit your life better, which George really encourages. Find out more in the video below.
