As design lovers with our fingers firmly on the pulse, here at mydeco.com we’re beyond excited about the upcoming New Designers show. In case you haven’t heard of it before, the show is a two-part showcase and celebration of new graduate design talent across a host of design disciplines. Over 3,500 of the most talented, newly graduated designers from across the nation will come together at The Business Design Centre for the 27th edition of New Designers – and we can’t wait to see their work.
In addition to the cream of this year’s graduate crop, the ‘One Year On’ exhibition is a really exciting element of the show. Approximately 50 top young designers who, just a year ago, were newly qualified and emerging from college and university, are exhibited in the hopes of accelerating the success of their newly established businesses. These winners of 2011 awards return to show their new work and demonstrate how they have developed in the mean time. These are ‘ones to watch’ as winning a New Designer award is an indication of real, fresh talent.
Ever ones to do our research, we have taken a sneak peek at who will be exhibiting in the One Year On showcase and have short listed some of our immediate favourites. Tatsuya Akita’s name leapt out at us as we are already proud to list him amongst our designers. Tatsuya has designed a collaborative range of sophisticated and contemporary desk accessories with mydeco.com favourites Plant & Moss in brass and concrete – which we just love.
Talented, Brighton-based Joanna Corney turns her delicate illustrations into wallpapers, tote bags and fabulous cushions. We have a huge selection of beautiful cushions but these still caught our attention as they are so detailed and intricate. We’ll definitely be dropping by to see her complete collection at the show.
The show runs across two weeks, Part 1: (27 to 30 June) displays contemporary applied art alongside directional textiles, fashions and home accessories. Part 2 (4 to 7 July) sees fresh ideas for furniture and spatial design juxtaposed beside innovative product design. Whatever your interest, there’s bound to be a future stellar designer you ought to become aware of.
For 27 years New Designers has launched the careers of thousands of UK design graduates and helped to propel the country’s most talented designers towards success. If you’re excited by fresh, innovative design then you absolutely must not miss this show.
