Our top 5 craft blogs for June

At mydeco.com our love of design doesn’t stop at interiors. This week, our Social Media intern Theo shares his top five craft blogs for June. His favourites are varied, ranging from balloons and urban art, to a crochet made in the shape of none other than Bjork!

1) The Make Lounge - Beautiful Handcrafted Balloons in London

This blog post looks at Bonbon Balloons, who craft brilliant handmade balloon strings. The balloons are beautifully made and, most importantly, look really fun to play with. It looks like a great product and I am really impressed by it. I know exactly where I’m going to buy balloons for my next birthday!

2) Craft: - Bjork’s “Homogenic” in Tunisian Crochet

This post focuses on crochetbunnii and her fabulous rad Tunisian Crochet of popstar, Bjork.  A visually striking piece – and there is even an in-progress stream of her creating it. Check it out.

3) Shealynn’s Faerie Shoppe – Book clock tutorial

This is an older blog but one that I had to include. Shealynn gives us an idea about how we can put our old books to good use. Everyone has books lying around and it’s a great idea to upcycle them to enhance the design of your home. Shealynn is very resourceful, and creates a wonderful looking clock. I’m inspired to give it a try!

4) Megan’s Blog – Manchester hankies

Here we look at a lovely piece created by students at the Manchester School of Architecture. The design takes a vintage map of Manchester and screenprints, by hand, the image onto the handkerchiefs. I’m a big fan of urban focused artwork and this is right up my alley (pun intended). A very cool post.

5) Bugs and Fishes – A sky blanket (almost halfway!)

Being English, I had to talk about the weather. So, one of my picks includes this post which gives an update on Laura Howard’s efforts to make a hand-knitted sky blanket. She uses an interesting mix of blues and greys which, sadly, is an accurate representation of the British skyline. Lots of good humour and imagery contained in this blog post.
