Welcome to serene Scandinavian style in southwest London. We’re looking around  the house of the owner of boutique Nordic Elements, Helle Moyna. It is the definition of immaculate, Nordic style and she delivers the look with stereotypical scandi-ease.

On entering her wonderfully fragrant home, Helle was quick to point out the ‘Boys will be Boys’ wall sticker in the hall way, fittingly without its second ‘O’, as one of her little ones is ‘a real picker’.

Simultaneously cool and homely, key pieces from Nordic Elements’ collection greeted us upon entering her sleek grey living room. Everything had its place but not in a rigid way. One of the great triumphs of Scandinavian design is that it is so beautifully defined and perfectly poised, yet there is a tactility and degree of accessibility. It is fine design that can be appreciated by all, as her well-loved knitted poufs acutely showed.

Christmas and Scandinavia are the perfect fit. Helle displayed minimalist beginnings to classic Scandi Christmas decorating with the cheeky ‘nisse’ (Christmas elves) sitting naughtily on the mantelpiece, a dwarf Christmas tree clad out in the finest white bone china By Nord tree decorations and candles twinkling prettily about the room.

A bowl of dried oranges added to the senses and lifted the Christmas feeling. They filled the room with a robust, festive scent.

Helle demonstrates what can be achieved through decisive and refined Christmas decoration choices. The beauty of such pieces is that they can happily remain up much longer, if you are less inclined to stick to the traditional take down on the 6th of January… as long as you are not superstitious, of course!
