Squint Ltd is a unique, independent design company which produces premium quality, bespoke, hand-crafted exuberant furniture and home accessories. Designer Lisa Whatmough has created a world of richly decorative home wares which are a fusion of fashion and the decorative Arts. We are proud that we have many of Squint’s extraordinary pieces available on mydeco.com.

The Squint range is made to order in most cases. Sofas and armchairs can be designed to specific widths and depths and are available with or without seat cushions. A Squint piece is a bold statement, an investment and a status symbol. We decided to find out a little more about this quality, British design house.

Can you tell us about the inspiration for Squint’s exuberant style?

I think our style is very much a mix of my and my clients’ tastes, clearly I attract a certain type of ‘colour fearless’ customer, but ultimately I’m most inspired by each commission as no two are ever quite the same.

What do you think makes Squint products so popular?

Well I think we have a very special company and in part it’s the quality of the pieces and the fact that most are bespoke and can be made to size and different colour palettes. If you ignore the companies who copy us we are one of the few furniture brands that make this way these days.

Your products are made to the “highest standards of craftsmanship”, how do you ensure this?

I oversee every single order we make from start to finish and if it’s not good enough it has to be redone. I’m the ultimate quality controller!

No two Squint sofas or armchairs are ever exactly the same, what ‘customise-able’ options are available?

Everything from size to colours, and colours are from all shades of white to fluorescents and every colour option in between.

Do you have a favourite or a ‘hero product’ amongst your range?

We are gearing up to launch our new collection of fabrics and wallpapers and at the moment those are my heroes, it’s been an interesting process learning about the different types of printing and I’m looking forward to seeing how they are received.

Can you tell us a bit more about your interior design service?

That will somewhat work on a project by project basis – we have just opened a new showroom in South Kensington, and a couple of the sales team have Interior Design backgrounds so are able to advise in a practical way with enquiries. Other, larger projects will be directed back to the Studio where I take over with various associates depending on the brief.

Where else do you shop for your home?

It’s dreadful really but I don’t want anyone else’s products at home! I love our work so much that it’s all I need. I’m about to redecorate though and fill the house with the new wallpaper designs, as many as I can visually squeeze in.

Your products feature a rich mix of patterns, colours and textures. Can you give us some tips for bringing this style into our homes?

I always say it’s about quality: quality of paint, paper, fabric, furniture, art… Really whatever you’re drawn to. Buy less and love more, and that way everything you put in should go together visually.

    Quite quite quite exuberant furniture!

It’s that one standout piece in your living room, but would you use it to sit?
