Internationally-famed design gurus: the mydeco Design Board

© mydeco

The mydeco Design Board is made up of key industry players who contribute regularly to the website giving advice, playing on the 3D planning tools and taking part in our forum discussions. Meet mydeco’s internationally-acclaimed designers: Sir Terence Conran, Philippe Starck, Kelly Hoppen, Kirstie Allsopp, Tara Bernerd and Marc Newson.

Sir Terence Conran (co-chairman)

The successes of Habitat, The Conran Shop and an elegant restaurant chain are all just some of the reasons we are thrilled to have Terence Conran as co-chairman of the mydeco
Design Board.

Always at the sharp end of innovation in design, Conran helped Britain wave good-bye to post war austerity in the 50s with the radical Design Festival of Britain. He transformed interiors on the high street with Habitat and has carved his own multidisciplined design group spanning architecture, product, restaurants and interior design.

Philippe Starck (co-chairman)

Our co-chairman and the enfant terrible of design, Starck has changed the landscapes of many of the world’s major cities, with projects such as the Mondrian in Los Angeles, the Peninsula restaurant in Hong Kong and even a waste recycling plant in Paris. Winner of the illustrious Grand Prix for Design award, no toothbrush, door handle or salad bowl is left unturned in Starck’s mission to improve our physical world.

Kirstie Allsopp

Synonymous with property broadcasting, Allsopp has an intuitive sense of what makes a real estate success, backed up with her years spent as interiors journalist, interior designer and student of History of Art at Christies. Allsopp currently graces our screens with Location Location Location and is a frequent commentator for broadsheets and magazines on smart property moves. She also has a property search business, Garrington Homes, with co-presenter Phil Spencer.

Tara Bernerd

Target Living, an architecture and design consultancy created in 2002, boasts the talented Bernerd as its founder and chairman. Bernerd has worked on projects as diverse and impressive as Philippe Starck’s property company, Yoo Ltd, the Art House with B&B Italia for the London Art Fair and her own furniture collection. Bernerd has also received the Andrew Martin Award for Interior Design, as well as bringing her quirky vision to the lodges of Center Parcs, the UK woodland holiday retreats.

Kelly Hoppen

Winner of the 2007 European Women Award for Entrepreneurship, Kelly Hoppen’s pared down style has moved out of the field of Interior design, and into a collection of paints, carpets, and ceramics as well as a successful diffusion line on the high street for BHS. Those looking to recreate the Hoppen clean lines, which have been applied to aircraft interiors, restaurants and apartments, can take inspiration from her latest book Kelly Hoppen Home (£30).

Marc Newson

Sydney bred and based Newson encapsulates modern design for many. His collaborations with manufactures such as Flos, Cappellini, Moroso and Alessi brought his vision into the wider public arena. Those who love his vision can travel on the aircraft he designed for Qantas Airways, then call friends on the mobile phone he created for Japan’s KDDI to discuss his ranges for Nike and G-Star. They can even toast his success with a magnum of champagne from Dom Perignon, sat cooling in its bucket designed by… guess who?
