Determine what inspires you
Most people equate relaxation with tangible life experiences, things or feelings. If last summer you enjoyed lying lazily on a beach, then soft colors of blues and beiges may relax you. While if the daily setting sun reminds you of a peaceful way to end the day, muted tones of purples and coral hues may be the perfect colors for your bedroom walls.

Choose lighting to compliment colors
Once you have found your colors, don’t forget to bring in multiple sources of light to compliment the colors. While the actual colors you choose are important, choosing a soft light pendant light over your bedroom sitting area, or finding illuminating wall sconces near your bed side are just as important. Don’t forget about natural lighting as well. Open up window treatments regularly to showcase off colors in your room. When choosing colors for your room, buy a few sample containers of paint and apply them to a corner wall of your room. For a few days, see how the color makes you feel in the morning, midday and evening. This will help you choose relaxing colors that feel inspiring everyday!

Your relaxing bedroom is closer than you think, once you know how to choose colors that have meaning to you. Don’t be afraid to go bold! While many people feel like relaxing colors have to be muted and pastel colors, many enjoy an accent wall of a deeper forest green or royal blue. If you choose to use bolder colors, counterbalance out your room with neutrals, like beiges, whites and grays to give your room unity and equal visual aesthetic strength.     So true on trying out colors for how they affect you at different times of day and in different light… right-on suggestion! And good point about color balance so strong colors can be placed well within the entire color pallette of the room. Color has a powerful affect on me…and I have decided preferences that don’t always fit into latest trends or decorators’preferences, so approaching color choices from the standpoint of balance is a great solution to making preferences work appropriately for the times and the room.

    when designing a room a like to use a mixture of complementary paint colours and soothing, hypnotic wallpaper patterns to create an area of tranquillity where you are able to shut the door on all the madness of our fast paced lives.
    I like to use bedroom wallpaper such as the Tres Tintas range which i found at http://www.wallpaperking.co.uk.
    I find myself returning to this range time and time again

I remember reading some fung shwei stuff awhile ago saying that bedroom should not contain yellow-orange colors because their interfere with the relaxathion needed while preparing yourself to sleep. It has also been said that such colors fit play room much better because they inspire you to be more active.
