Back in November, the Trend Bible team gave mydeco.com readers a preview of one of our trend directions for spring/summer 2012, focusing on the brights colour trend which is dominating home interior products this season. This month, we share with you another prominent trend from our spring/summer 2012 forecast for home interiors, Palm Springs, and how this trend has been adopted and implemented into spring/summer 2012 product ranges by retailers and home interior brands.
‘Palm Springs nods to consumers’ eternal quest for utopia in the home and a slower pace of life,’ explains Trend Bible creative director Joanna Feeley. ‘This season we look towards retro 1970s Palm Springs, as the fusion of urban and rural continues to be a major inspiration for the home. Modernist architectural elements and eccentric colour combinations present a cool but calm – and inspiring – environment.’
Here we show you how this trend direction has been interpreted by one well known retailer and referenced at trade shows.
Sainsbury’s homeware range for s/s 2012 references Trend Bible’s Palm Springs direction from print and colour down to the name of the trend. Chevrons and stripes are both key print features for this trend and Sainsbury’s have referenced an original Trend Bible print for their outdoor soft furnishings.
Also included in Sainsbury’s outdoor range is a micro colour story of vibrant blue, strong pink and purple tinted pink, implemented across their picnic-ware range. The unexpected colour clashes between these tones are an important element of this trend and provide a vibrant yet laid back setting for summer dining.
We’ve also picked up on the Palm Springs trend at recent interior trade shows, including Maison et Objet, held in Paris. Here are our top picks from the show:
