5 December 2007 - Car tax might be about as sexy as the winter flu, but that’s no reason the little disc on your windscreen shouldn't look good.
Bring on the Pretty Taxing project, a collection of eight unique tax disc holders designed by contemporary artists in collaboration with the retro art-meets-car-boot-sale phenomenon, the Art Car Boot Fair.
Seven of the designs by Sarah Lucas, Abigail Lane, Ian Monroe, Matt Collishaw and Sir Peter Blake are limited-edition, and work on the Art Car Boot Fair's philosophy that fine art should be available at fair prices. The discs are also intended to take design out of the home and office and into motor vehicles, and only 500 of each have been produced. The eighth design, Gavin Turk’s Sculptor, is unlimited, supporting the idea that it should be available to anyone who wants one.
Watch this space for their 2008 commissions. A sure-fire incentive to renew your car tax on time...
