Eggshell is a wood paint Chloe. Wood can be painted with a shiny finish using a gloss paint or with a less shiny finish using a water-based satinwood or a spirit-based eggshell. Glass is also spirit-based - you need to clean brushes used for spirit-based paint in brush cleaner - whereas water-based paints can be washed out under a tap. Walls are painted with an emulsion which comes in various finishes. There are now loads of other types of paints available but these are the basics. DIY-ers usually use gloss or satinwood - professional decorators seem to like eggshell but I find it really hard to apply neatly
