Q&A

feelings about compulsory registration?

What do you think about websites which you have to join before you can do anything?

I understand joining for continued use but if I'm making a one-off purchase, it's hardly necessary for me to register with the company and create a password etc, is it?
It feels like a cross between online formality and information hijacking.

I do not really think it is necessary for buying a product from a shop when you are not going to be communicating with people and returning to the website for entertainment like you do on mydeco. It is annoying when you are trying to make a speedy purchase too!

    Totally agree with you!

My girlfriend and I run a gifts / home accessories website (www.pennysarcade.co.uk) and we decided not to have accounts at all - having to register just puts people off in my opinion.

You don't need to create a password to buy in a normal shop, so why does it need to be any different online?
