This is an original, licensed Barcelona stool by Knoll International. The 'Barcelona Suite' was originally created by the legendary modernist architect, Mies van der Rohe. The most recognisable piece from the range is the 'Barcelona Chair', a design dedicated to the Spanish Royalty, in honour of the 1929 official opening of the German Pavilion at the Barcelona International Exhibition. It is said to be derived from his interpretation of an Egyptian Royal folding chair and a Roman folding footstool. It quickly became an icon for the era and the whole modernist movement. The signature of Mies van der Rohe is stamped into the base of each chair. The cushions are upholstered with 40 individual panels cut, hand-welted and hand-tufted from a single hide.
