  • Bargain Hunter

I am the ultimate bargain hunter.  If I don't feel at though I'm getting a good deal on something, I simply won't buy it.  I tend to buy something when I see it, as opposed to when I need it and have a storeroom filled with fabrics, rugs, accessories and quaint objects.  My favourite sources for fabrics include yearly warehouse sales from the fabric manufacturers (sometimes discounts as much as 70-90 percent on high quality items) and Curtain Factory Outlet, for consistent good quality at bargain prices.  For accessories and homewares you can't beat TK Maxx...their ever-changing inventory shopped from all over the world helps keep interiors fresh as well as unique.  And finally, I love markets...any kind, anywhere.

  • Favourite city

I would have to say that my favourite city is San Miguel de Allende, Mexico, where I have my holiday home.  I'd have to say that this is my favourite "hotel".  San Miguel is an original Spanish Colonial settlement dating back to the 16th century.   Rising 6,500 feet above sea level, surrounded by mountains, it originated   as a stop on the silver mining trails.  It is on the list of Mexico's historical preservation and thus the architecture in the Historic Centre of town looks today much as it looked when originally built.  It has developed over the years into a haven for artists, writers, and designers.  The weather is nearly perfect all year 'round with the bluest skies I've ever seen.  I love the creativity of the local people who can build anything one can imagine.  Right now, I'm in the process of constructing a mini "Hascienda" in the countryside outside of town.  I'm looking forward to designing more »

  • Design ideals and places of inspiration

As I always say, "The home is the metaphor of the Self".  I believe that one's home should not only reflect who they are, but should be designed and decorated in a manner conducive to bringing out the best in each person living there.  It is important for me to know a lot about a client before I start to work with them...how they want to use each room, what things they like about their home as it stands, what things they would change if they could, what they feel is missing.  That's the big brush-stroke.  Then I dig deeper in order to find out what colours, textures and shapes they respond to.  I use these parameters along with my expertise to develop a scheme that is personal, beautiful as well as practical.  In designing for others it's "All about them". I get my inspiration from many sources.  Travel is one of the most inspiring, especially to foreign or exotic locations...the architecture, colours, fabrics, food, all of it more »
