Green kitchens - hot or not? HELP NEEDED!

What is the verdict on green kitchens?

(These images are pinched from other blogs - it's not my own kitchen!)

I've just booked an appointment at Magnet - although to be honest, I might head down the IKEA kitchen route - and I just don't know what style to go for...

I'm keen on dark grey granite worksurfaces as it's so hardwearing and wooden surfaces mark really easily - but i think i'll have a wooden bar to break down the harsh look... And slate floor perhaps?

Anyhow, colourwise - what does anyone think about green kitchens? Cool or a bit sickly? My brothers used to tease me in my flat that my kitchen looked like a school san... it was cooking apple green from Farrow & Ball and I loved it.

I was thinking about painting my kitchen units a pale pistachio green with Moroccan or Portuguese tiles as a splashback but having doubts now... ANY ADVICE MOST APPRECIATED!

  I like a pastel-lime, our previous kitchen had been done in forest green, far too dark but I do like the 1st and 3rd pics, a light green is refreshing

  ...one more thought, turquoise is gorgeous, but will it look 'colder' in the winter? Pistachio tones like those in the pics, are quite warm at the same time as being cool, if you know what i mean!

  I love green, and pistachio sounds great for your kitchen. Especially nice and cooling when you're slaving over a hot stove! I think the joy of colour is to enjoy it and express yourself. Do what makes you happy! x

  Wow! thanks so much for all your advice. It's really great to get impartial tips from you all - but i'm warning you, i've got hundreds of design questions that i'll now bombard you with!
  So I think the verdict is - i'm going to go for a very pale green cupboard IF they're easy to re-paint (if i change my mind) and cream walls - OR if not easy to re-paint, pale green walls and cream units. I've got an appointment with Magnet next Saturday so will find out more... that's the next verdict - Magnet kitchen or IKEA? so many decisions!

  I love the colour but I think it would be better to paint the walls in it! And don't take any notice of your brothers, i bet your kitchen looked beautiful! xxx

  I love green kitchens! I wasn't a fan at first as I always thought of the 1970's look of avocardo! but now I've changed my mind ever since I revamped my kitchen recently - I used Salisbury stone 3 which gave a green tint to the doors and I think it looks great!

  I adore that light apple shade, very English country farm house! The more turquoise shades I'd say are more Mediterranean which is also gorgeous and would work well on the muted tones you are thinking about.
  
  I love green, it's fresh and not overpowering, very calming and great to have in an area where you'll be preparing and eating food.
  
  Try out different shades in our 3D room planner, or you could even upload a photo of your kitchen and try out different colours, using the 'decorate my photo' function.

  I totally agree with Paivil. I usually go for neutral units & use colour for the accent.If you can afford to change the units when you get tired of them (& unfortunately certain colours can date)definitely go for green,but I would go for an unusual accent colour,maybe pink or even black!!Go with your instinct,you have to live with it & I would disregard the opinions of others,(except those of the Mydeco family!)Keep us informed of your decision.F

  Hey there, having thoughts about colours in a room is familiar to me - it's something that you'll have to live with quite a long time after all. It's all a matter of opinion really, but here's mine, if you want to hear different points of view. For me is green, especially pistachio green, one of the colors that fit perfectly in the kitchen - regardless what the trends say. In my own kitchen I am, however, a bit more timid; I have a white kitchen pepped up with grass green, as that is easier to sell when you're moving out. But if you're not moving out anytime soon, you should go for the colors that you like. After all, isn't it more important what you think and like than what trends or your friends might say? It's you that has to look at the kitchen cabinets every day, not them... :)
