ok folks, this is a blatant plug for my good friend Elle who has at last opened her own florists in Beckenham Kent, on the High Street,. She is super talented and I have always marveled at the way she can take any blooms, stems and leaves and create beautiful bouquets and displays- even my dodgy ones from the supermarket have been transformed at her hands. if you are in this area of London and need a gift or floral display of any sort please give her a try!! www.pinksofbeckenham.co.uk 155 High Street, Beckenham, Kent, BR3 1AE Phone: 0208 663 3377 The new business is growing fast! after many years Beckenham finally has a florist in the High Street. They create stunning handtieds, arrangements and bouquets using good quality flowers and plants direct from Holland and local growers so whatever your style Modern or Traditional they can help. open: Monday - Saturday 9.00am - 5.30pm. • Brocante and brilliant weather in France

just returned from the French trip, laden with many items from various brocante shops and fairs, plus lovely pieces from the numerous homestores and kitchen shops we found. Of note Bois et Chiffons in Perigeux, and Le Troc which has several branches, like a TK Maxx for furniture and home items, new and second hand. I managed (at last) to find a real 'poubelle de table' and the French have these great serviette holders in many designs, so I now have two! Also found more pieces for my French kitchenalia collection, a Ricard water carafe, a Pernod jar, a vinaigrette jug etc. My auntie bought the most fabulous heavy duty 8 piece antique garden furniture set in a classic cream metal for  a great price for her renovated barn's garden. Ideal! we found this at a brocante stall at the huge and brilliant Riberac market (Dordogne). these markets are fantastic and the quality of the fruit and veg for sale is outstanding plus its cheaper than the UK. even the supermarkets are better, more variety more »

  • Vive la France

two weeks today and we are off to France for a 2 week road trip! Can't wait for all the little shops and opportunity to purchase more French items for my Hove home. I already have an extensive French kitchenware collection with some njice pieces, so I will be looking to add to this , plus hopefully finding some cool antiquey frames, fabrics and oddments. I will be reading up on collectables before I go and making sure I know what to look for and some idea of prices- however I know if I see something that I really want...well, what's a few extra euros?! First stop is the Loire for a few days taking in some vineyards and chateaux, then onto La Vendee to see my French 'family' I last was there in 1987 as an au pair. My French 'mum' is Madame Jacquemin, a veritable femme Francaise. Am not sure who else from the family will be around (this is the holiday home, they all live in Paris) but it will be a nostalgic trip nonetheless. I can see the town and the beach as if i wa sthere onyl last more »

  • credit crunch crisis? oh my god yes they mean me..

well I am writing this from a position of relief after 2 months of hell.  I can only write about it now as its all sorted but b****y hell what a nightmare. I will cut a long story short but three years ago my aldulterous ex left, and I had to find the funds to not only pay the mortgage myself but also the debts he left. I had to remortgage to get a lump sum to clear everything, and at the time had a great broker at the helm to help me, as on my own I could not have sorted out a mortgage that would cover everything, as my salary was vastly smaller than my ex's when we had had a joint mortgage. anyway 3 years passed and my fixed rate ended, so I had to remortgage again. here's where the problem lies, as although I had become debt free (selling stuff on ebay, having lodgers) and paid the mortgage without fail, and increased my salary by changing careers, I did not earn enough on paper to get the mortgage I needed with the new stricter rules in place and the suddenly volatile market, with more »

  • glass buildings and the like

if anyone is in the market for a glass building or orangery then look no futher than Marston and Langinger Ltd- simply amazing! Marston & Langinger was launched with just three people in 1978 who by converting a Victorian maltings in Fakenham, Norfolk, started a design studio and workshop. • brilliant art website for interiors

http://www.55max.com “Several years ago, a talented photographer friend of mine, Amelia Troubridge, gave me some of her own prints for my birthday. I’d recently purchased my first flat, so like many young people buying their first home, I had exhausted my funds on the boring essentials – a gift of contemporary art was fantastic! Needless to say, my walls were transformed and from Amelia’s wonderful gift, 55Max was born. My idea was simple: surely there were many other people out there like me, for whom buying good art just wasn’t affordable? I wanted maximum style at minimum cost – a maximum of £55 – hence our name! 55Max now represents more than 30 award-winning photographers and holds a vast database of pictures that grows daily. We also have access to the largest press archives in the UK (including Getty) and are therefore able to bring you thousands of black and white classic photographs and art prints from the world of music, celebrity and film. As 55Max is constantly more »
