  • JOHN STEFANIDIS' LONDON LOBBY WOWS VISITORS

October 2008 Visitors walking into Decorex through the Sloane Square entrance were quite unprepared for the visual impact of the malachite green London Lobby designed by John Stefanidis. The vibrant colour scheme of mostly red, green, black and silver formed the basis of a real show stopper. Cut-out portholes in the wall adjoining the main exhibition area gave tantalising glimpses of the stands beyond. After registering for the show, visitors entered the lobby and just stopped and stared. Wherever they looked, there were fabulous pieces of furniture, sparkling crystal chandeliers and mirrors, wonderful fabrics and a bespoke Stefanidis carpet, eye-catching decorative objects, futuristic speakers serenading them with songs about London and, centre stage, the arresting lightboxes by Drew Whitemore featuring scenes of London. Entranced by the feast of style and craftsmanship, a queue of visitors built up as they looked about them deciding what to look at first. The more »

  • JOHN STEFANIDIS' LONDON LOBBY AT DECOREX 2008

September 2008 LONDON-THEMED ENTRANCE LOBBY AND A BAMBOO JUNGLE FEATURE DESIGNED BY JOHN STEFANIDIS AT DECOREX 2008 "Decorex makes people pull up their socks and discover  what's new!" John Stefanidis Decorex is only two weeks away and we are busy putting the final touches to the two features areas designed by John Stefanidis. LONDON LOBBY Taking 'London' as his theme, John has designed the lobby to reflect some of the wonderful elements that make London such a thrilling capital. Exhibitors have been incredibly enthusiastic and overwhelmingly generous with their offers of items, services and their time.   To create drama and impact in the large, tented area of the lobby John Stefanidis has used strong, vibrant colours – red, blue, black, viridian and silver with over-scale pieces and decorative accessories.  The scheme is underpinned with a few bespoke items generously created by exhibitors which serve to connect all the various elements on show. • Sumptuous styling

Exotic wall hangings bring a touch of Oriental opulence to this room, while it’s the extra details that add so much. Plain curtains are embellished with red tassels and a red ribbon border and cushions are decorated with trimmings. Splash of life Although the colour of this scheme is simple, the devil is in the detail. It’s typical of John Stefanidis’ style to provide visual interest in the accessories, these beautifully elaborate cushions being very much his signature style.

  • My Interior Design Trends Tips for 2008

People often ask me what the upcoming 'trends' are for the home and interior design, which is sometimes a hard one to answer as these things chop and change all the time. I have however put a few together which I hope inspire... 1.      Furniture:  curvaceous soft lines, organic, unstructured shapes – no more angles or sharp edges.  Modern oriental influences.  Think Zaha Hadid. 2.      Lacquer finishes in bright colours and strong contrasts – black and white. 3.      Mixture of antique and contemporary, oriental and western styles. 4.      Strong movement away from beige and all its nuances.  Move towards more colour and more pattern in a less restricted palette.  Clean bright colours. 5.      Printed fabrics – classic but not traditional printed on faux suede, hessian, moiré, silk – more »

  • LE RICHEMOND HOTEL IN GENEVA

After more than 20 months of extensive renovation work, including the addition of a 7th floor, Rocco Forte's Le Richemond in Geneva has opened again to reveal what I believe is a sensational new look.  This jewel amongst the Rocco Forte Collection's hotels now boasts 109 spacious new bedrooms, a restaurant, bar, three meeting rooms, a ballroom and spa all designed in what some describe as my 'vibrant and unique' style. Sir Rocco Forte and his sister, Olga Polizzi, Director of Design at The Rocco Forte Collection, invited me to collaborate with them on this project, where comfort and elegance were paramount, it was also important that I reflect the prestigious history of the hotel and its spectacular views of the Alps and Lake Geneva. Taking neo-Baroque references and in Le Bar, Art Deco as my inspiration, I wanted to create an exciting, unique space with universal appeal.   Some of my favourite elements of the refurbished hotel include the spectacular more »
