Background

Oliver Heath is a founding member of Blustin Heath Design Ltd who specialise in sustainable architecture, interiors and products. Set up in 1998 with business partner Nikki Blustin they have worked on a wide range of projects from domestic through to commercial spaces and exhibitions. – creating practical yet stylish and innovative solutions that have a have a strong sustainable approach.

Projects are each given individual consideration with careful attention paid to the client’s aspirations, the site location, time scales and budgets. We encourage all our clients to adopt an environmental approach when considering the specification and function for their project. This encompasses using efficient resource systems, renewables, and a palette of environmental materials - which we would put together in a unique contemporary style. For our domestic clients we encourage creating “Better Homes” those that are as good to live in as they are for the environment.

Design Tips

  • Natural paints
  • Cut down on toxins in the home such, as Volatile Organic Compounds (which contribute to respiratory problems such as asthma) found in conventional paints by using natural paints. EarthBorn’s clay paints are permeable so help to control moisture in the home and contain no nasty toxins – so are better for you and better you’re your home.

  • LED lighting
  • Were all familiar with energy saving bulbs, but the lighting of the future will come from Light Emitting Diodes. Bulbs last for up to 100, 000 hours (compared to a conventional tungsten bulb which lasts 1000 hours) and use a just a fraction of the energy – around 2 to 3 watts.

  • Stop draughts
  • Even simple draughts account for 15% of the heat loss in your home. Fitting draught excluders is an easy DIY task, saving you money but importantly making your home a more comfortable place to live.

  • Eco Materials
  • Use a variety of materials that set up exciting textural and aesthetic contrasts – don’t rely on a single of material such as timber for floors, surfaces and furniture or very soon you won’t be able to see the wood for the trees.
