A Question...

Hey everyone,

I posted a question earlier, but now can't seem to find it, so I thought I would create a new blog post.  I wanted to get some feedback on a career change I am planning to interior design.  I actually have a background in fashion design and merchandising, and for the past ten years have been in the IT world- mainly software.

I am thinking getting some information on the certificate program at Parsons School of Design here in NY, and starting my own website for now- mainly to post projects I've done for friends, family, and myself.

Any thoughts or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

What do you think?

Hi there,
I think it's a good idea. I always admire people that go for a complete career change.
The main advice I can give is to be confident with all the content you include on your blog. Styling is very much about 'confidence in your conviction' Be proud of all the styles and rooms you have designed and always explain your though process and how you came to create that particular look; as what comes naturally to you, other people may really struggle with.
Try and include things like current paint and fabric trends along with great little shops you know about where people can buy gorgeous accessories. You basically want to create information about the world of interiors.
I hope this helps and good luck...

Interior design is such a great subject as this site shows so gor for it! I think it's great that your background actually is in fashion as this will dictate how you see interiors...as we all know, the boundaries between fashion and interiors is blurring all the time so I am sure you will find this experience fantastic! I am not an interior designer like Pippa whose advice sounds wonderful, but from someone that loves interiors as I have set up my own design based website, www.walesathome.co.uk, it sounds like you have all the right credentials :o)

Hey Rach,

Take the leap! I ran my own tv production company but gave it up to follow my heart & love affair with interiors! I don't earn quite as much money, but I'm a whole lot happier & less stressed!
Also check out www.interiorstylist.org - I'm a member but it's based in the US. I reckon interior styling is the best bits of interior design! Zoe.x
