As a City Dweller (specifically, New York), one of the most common challenges I hear from felllow City folk is how to create a functional, stylish, budget-friendly space. As an animal lover, I need to make the place pet friendly as well.
This weekend begins my quest to find cheap, stylish furnishings for my new abode. I plan to post the before and afters on my profile.
I'm headed to Target and IKEA first! I may check out some used items on Craigslist. I also have a bookcase (found curbside) that I need to paint- it's hunter green with country-kitchen style apples on the top. Yikes!
I will be sure to share any tips...and am open to any comments or tips from mydeco comrades.
Cheers,
Rachel

Do you have Gumtree.com in the US as well? It's pretty identical to Craigslist, but popular over here in the UK.

I haven't seen or heard of Gumtree.com here, but I will check it out.
Thanks Jennifer!

ILVA's good for cheap and stylish stuff too, and re your four legged friends theres a shop called THE MUTZ KNUTZ in notting hill which has fantastic dog and cat accessories, bowls beds cushions etc so they too can live chicly!

Thank you Kitty! Just reaffirms a long-standing suspicion that I should move to the UK... :)
I will check to see if I can find that shop online.

I like your room. I'm a landlord and am getting some houses built and am looking for ideas for practical, budget but stylish hardworking layouts I can crib. This is interesting & helpful -thanks.

The US has such great furniture stores! I just returned from LA and had a brilliant time looking through Crate and Barrel (where I bought a nifty mango peeler), Pottery Barn and Restoration Hardware. Anyone in LA will know there's also a bunch of great high end furniture stores on Beverly Blvd... California dreaming!

I'm glad you had a nice time!
You may also like West Elm (westelm.com) or Pier 1 Imports (pier1.com) Unfortunately, both do not ship internationally :(
Have you seen this site?
http://www.allthingsoriginal.com/ It's a UK-based site filled with independent designers.
