Winners of the prestigious 2006 Andrew Martin International Interior Designer of the Year Award, Taylor Howes Designs is headed up by Gail Taylor and Karen Howes.

Gail and Karen are equal partners and best friends; both with natural talent and differing, distinctive styles that combine perfectly to give their spectacular trademark finish to every project. The ethos of the company stems from their easy-going approach, never forcing a client to take on any design feature that they do not feel comfortable with. In addition, the attention to every final detail has brought them their loyal customer base “our commitment to providing a first rate service and only using the best materials and craftsmen has helped to build our reputation.

Recent commissions include the complete refurbishment of a West City six-storey show home at Phillimore Square, Kensington; two apartments at ‘The Knightsbridge’, a redesign of a cutting-edge hotel in Ireland as well as delivering inspiring results for many private residences in the UK.

TREND FORECAST

  • Metallic finishes will be everywhere, on everything from leathers to wallpaper.

  • Metal Furniture will be all the rage next season. Great examples are the 'Wire' and 'Smallwire' tables by Zanotta or Capellini's 'Ribbon' stool. They come in a variety of different colours, all of them strikingly beautiful and very funky.

  • Geometric prints will be a strong trend for fabrics and wall surfaces and even furniture. There is nothing timid about this new more edgy look and colours such as electric blue and tangerine are a reflection of this.

  • Retro influence from the 50s and 60s will continue to be a strong trend for collectables with many furniture manufacturers referencing pop art in the design of pieces reminiscent of past classics. Minotti's 'Cortina' chair for instance is a statement piece which pays hommage to Harry Bertoia's 'Diamond' chair, the famous design classic.

  • Sensational Upholstering on sofas and chairs will focus on the detail. Buttons, studs, piping, trimmings and contrasting fabrics and patterns will continue to dominate creating a sumptuous look.

  • Headboards are also set for a makeover. We will see more unusual and playful shapes.

  • Catwalk themes likely to filter into interiors include patent leather and primary colours.

  • Kitchen and bathroom design has experienced little change in recent years. 2008 will see a much-needed injection of personality, moving away from the sleek, fitted look that has dominated, introducing more freestanding pieces of furniture.

  • Vanity units and kitchen islands will be more bespoke and individual, catering to a wider audience. Kettles will become extinct as hot water taps become more standard.
