  • About Veeveenatyisy

I'm a busy mum (aren't we all) of three under nine, and I also support and care for my husband who's been ill with ME for three years.
My house comes with my job so I can't do everything I'd like to but I tend to stamp my personality on it through pictures, accessories and our own bits of furniture.
I love the sea and nature in general so colour choice is influenced by these.

  • We've moved!

I'd like to say, "oh happy day!" but it did get a bit stressful. Still, that's behind us now, and the kitchen, at least, is box free, though I'm still struggling to find a home for everything - especially after having such a beautiful, good sized kitchen in our previous home. We're loving the area but I do miss not being able to see the sea out of my bedroom window. Having the loft boarded out has been brilliant and for the first time ever we've got an organised loft with only essential things stored rather than all the stuff we'd accumulated after having 3 children. And I've been able to exercise my creativity, revamping a very naff beaureau (can't think whether that's the right spelling - brain fried!) to use as a home office. When I get the chance I'll post a picture. The very small bedroom is working out ok and will be even better once my daughter has grasped the concept of picking up clothes from the floor!!! Speaking of children I'd better get them to bed - we had a BBQ with more »

  • Life's curve balls!

The house move is rapidly approaching as too is the panic that we won't be ready in time, especially as the heavy, incessant rain last week postponed both the nursery and the main school's sports days to this week, and I have a funeral to attend. All in all, I'm losing way too much packing time, and just hoping against hope that somehow I manage to keep going enough to get it all done. And then, of course, life throws you another curve ball, and this time a whopping emotional one, and I'm finding myself having to push down so many thoughts - it's a bit like trying to squeeze one of those pop-up tents back into its bag, or one of those squashy snakes back into its box. Somewhere along the line I'm really going to have to take some time out and deal with it all, just not until we've moved.

  • New house living room

I've asked some of my friends to give me some ideas on how to fit our stuff into the new house living room. I did a rough plan myself but wasn't able to fully represent the room, so I thought I'd have a go at explaining it for clarity's sake. Still, it's been interesting to see what ideas have come up when people haven't known all the facts and it's led us in a new direction which I've tried to represent on the second attempt at new house living room. So, the room: in its entirety is 13ft by 18ft, but we lose some space because the end opposite the patio doors is a staircase. On the room plans I've represented this with a wall and a door that opens out of the room. Under the stairs is open and we plan to put in some cube-based units that will make use of the sloping space and create an area for the PC. Because the house comes with my job so too does some of the furniture, namely the 3-piece suite and the dresser unit. We have several different gaming consoles and other TV related more »

  • who took that photo of me?

The photo that goes around with me everywhere on this site was taken by my husband and digitally edited by him. Since M.E. has curtailed his painting he's taken up photography and I think he's gifted at it. He has some of his stuff posted on Flickr and I'm very proud of him. He's got such a good eye and now he's got a fantastic camera (I'm assured that this will be the last upgrade) he's achieving some incredible results. Obviously I aim to put his page up on my recommended sites so have a look. He's had a couple of shots taken up by the Washington Post which was really cool.

  • Room rendering

I guess I'm too much of a perfectionist when it comes to design tools, and frustrated by the fact that I can't do it all for real very much and am limited mostly to seeing my ideas only on a computer screen (due to family and job commitments that I've prioritised over my love for design of both homes and their interiors), but I've found myself a little disappointed by the so-called improvements that mydeco make "overnight" to the rendering of the rooms I've created. I wonder if anybody else feels the same.

Wow! It sounds like you have a lot of plates to juggle! I hope everything works out.

  • How do you fit a quart into a pint pot?

At the end of July we're moving with my job, specifically to be nearer our families so that we can have more support during Darren's illness. The problem is that the house we're moving into is a small 3 bedroom house and there are 5 of us. With only two downstairs rooms, one of which has the staircase in it, and a musical family plus computer, I'm wondering how on earth we're going to fit everything in. We have loads of books too and before my husband fell ill he was a very keen and good cook and so we've a few gadgets and quite a lot of cookbooks. Then there are the things I've needed to help me get through, like a dishwasher and a tumble-dryer (I know they're bad for the environment and I do try and use the washing line as much as possible but time-factors are very pressing and 3 children demand clean clothes every week - how inconsiderate! ;-) ) and nowhere obvious and easy to fit them in. On the plus side there are three toilets in the house so I'll finally be able to lock the more »
