  • WE'RE IN!

on thursday morning a large Pickfords van came round the corner of our street, it was met with whoops of delight as we hadn't had our things for 8 months and were very ready for our life of living out of suitcases to be over.  the pickfords guys couldn't be more charming - they took everything where we wanted it (even put up with my occassional indecisive moments) and assembled tables and beds etc - brilliant! however, the builders were still there!  not quite the smooth move in i had expected.  we'd had an 'end of build' clean arranged for the wednesday evening which happend but we renamed it 'clean round the builders'.  never mind, carpets were down and walls were painted - we could put up with just one loo working (downstairs) and not being able to shower for 24 hours as we had to wait for the silicone to dry! the unpacking began - our kitchen was piled high with boxes and major decisions had to be made as to where our glasses and plates were going to live - as close to the more »

  • the end is in sight

Apologies for total radio silence... terrible blogging behaviour i know, I can only say i've been so busy with 'the project' i've hardly had time to check emails! but the good news is my hard work (and lack of computer activity) has paid off and we can see the end.  The kitchen has been installed, the flooring is down and the utility room is there!  the bathroom has a bath and the tiling has just been finished - we're delighted with our marble capucino tiles from Premium Stone found at Topps Tiles, they are beauiful and really add a touch of luxury to our small bathroom. The downstairs shower room has it's basin now and has been plastered - the orginial shower room (as you will see in my photos sections) was COMPLETELY tiled so the poor builders had a terrible job of stripping them off and replastering the walls to perfection.  we'll just tile the shower cubilcle and above the basin in brick shape marble mosaic and paint the rest white.  it's ironic how the smallest room in the house more »

  • THE WALL IS DOWN!

i entered our 'house' last weekend and to my absolute delight the wall between the old kitchen and dining room was down!!  light flooded the new bigger room and despite the lack of floor boards and wires handing down I could visulize our new kitchen/breakfast room! you must be wondering why i was so surprised to be greeted by this sight!? Well, i had spoken to my builder that day asking when it would come down and be promised it would be next week - so he didn't know that some of his worker bees were busy in the house with their sledge hammers! the kitchen is being delivered in 3 weeks so it's all looking a bit more achievable!

Blimey - a builder who does the work ahead of time? Are you sure you weren't dreaming?

  • the roof is coming off

so...  we now just have a shell for a house!  walking around on the joists as the floor boards have been taken out it was a case of not falling through into the foundations.  the bathroom floor upstairs has totally gone so standing on the landing looking into the bathroom you can see the shower room downstairs - pretty amaxing stuff and extraordinary to see a house stripped back to its bare bones.   once i've worked out how to upload photos you can see what i mean! the scafolding is up and the roof is coming off as i write.  i'm praying for a dry week as our little house could really do with staying dry after the years of damp it's suffered.  Once the roof is off the new frame will be put up and brand new (light weight!) tiles will be put on.  then the internal wall between the kitchen and dining room will be knocked down to give us our family kitchen/diner we've always wanted! we have buiding control (from the council) making regular visits to make sure RSJ caculations are being done more »

  • Are we a little Crazy!?

hello i'm new to mydeco and and delighted to be sharing my news with you all, here's a brief introduction... We've just completed on our dream house - a total wreck!   It needs some serious TLC and a full make over.  to give you an overview of the project that we've undertaken when i call it a 'house' that is a wild exaggeration... there are walls, but the roof needs replacing, the walls we do have have need a good blow dry as they are suffering from damp, the wooden floors are riddled with wood worm and the heating and electrics are so antiquated the house is a bit of a death trap. so the builiders are in and the strip out is underway.  we have 5 months of this so watch this space! i'm sure the majority of the time will be fun but there will be dark days... cc
