When a friend told me how to get the kitchen of a skinny person (use small, blue plates) the house of a rich person (buy end of line) and eco credentials Al Gore would envy (revamp grandpa's sofa) I knew I had to share. So each week my team and I will bring you the hottest avant-garde design trends, celebrity interviews and property advice. Trust us to keep you in the know.

Trendsetters, a date for your diary

Last night, I trotted along to the opening night of FORM at London Olympia. And what a show it is. I joined an intrigued audience keen to find out what all the fuss was about. Fuelled by Tanqueray gin and tonics, the excitable crowd was buzzing around the new trends.

So what's hip this month? That'll be design-art, the most thrilling trend we've seen for donkeys. The blur between art, design and craft is gathering speed. From sculpture to photography and jewellery, there were touches of the surreal, especially cool at Kinetica.

Big names like Rebecca Hosack showed off quirky decoupage creations by Peter Clark while Ryle gallery gave us gems like Manami Hayasaki's framed bird silhouettes. Su Blackwell's boxed fairytale paper scenes were delightfully innocent.

Tomorrow's legendary designers were housed in the DNA area. I eyed up Stephen Johnson's playful celebration of domestic ornaments and futuristic prototype creations of Geoffrey Mann. All super cool and avant-garde.

The busiest stand was Greenwich Village Furniture where Stephan Dowers was fielding sales enquiries for Tord Boontje's Petit Jardin Bench. It's worth checking out.

Needless to say, I hung out in the VIP area designed by Frederickson Stallard - all chic distressed antiques. Jealously, I spied couples curling up on the Veuve Clicquot love seat designed by Karim Rashid. I was all alone. My advice is go, but take a buddy with you. Tickets at £12 are worth every penny. www.form-london.com, until 2 March.

What do you think?
