sympathetic storage

Instead of using cheap plastic boxes for storage that is going to be on display, try hunting out attractive second-hand items to contain things. I have a couple of vintage suitcases - one sits on top of my wardrobe holding flip-flops & one is in the study full of old letters. I have hatboxes for scarves/accessories & one as a sewing kit.Old wooden cigar boxes are good for jewellery & I also have a wooden hamper box for CDs. Also look out for second-hand glassware. Instead of having ugly plastic containers on show in the bathroom, fill glass decanters/bottles with bubble bath instead (you could even be really sneaky & fill these with the cheap stuff & squirrel the decent stuff away in the cupboard for yourself with no-one being any wiser!!)
