  • About sophisticutt

I'm a writer & philosopher by nature, fine-artist & poet by nurture, and in my dreams I help to save the world with love (so I have sweet dreams most nights). ;0)

Most of what has moved the world forwards, began as a hope.
Most of what takes it backwards, involves the death of hope.
The best of what we are lies in what we hope to be. :0)

  • Adverts... to accept, or not to accept?

Preface. Check. Introduction. Check. 6000word text. Check. Illustrations. Check. Reference. Check. Bibliography. Check. Apendices. No Check. I was working on it when "Windows encountered a problem and had to close". I'm scared to open it again incase I find that some work has been erased... So here I am - feeling like I've been away for ages! With the new look MyDeco and everything, I thought I'd come to the wrong address (lol) ;0) While I give Microsoft a little more time to recover I'll check out the blogs... there must be loads to catch up with. And I'll leave you with a few images I've come across in my thesis research: see what you think. Are they acceptable or unacceptable? And why? If I don't get to speak to you before-hand, have a good week, and I'll let you know what I think next time :0) xxx hmmmm.... and the slogan says, "Designed to Thrill" ...can you guess why this advert was banned in Russia...? ...this was also banned (in Italy). The title "Cena" means dinner or more »

  • these are a few of my purple-ish things...

I saw the purple ring in Cleberry's blog yesterday, and it was love at first sight. I'd have to get two though: for the last 2yrs my daughter's been wearing a purple hat, tie, and badge as part of her school uniform, so anything that enters the house (and happens to be purple) under-goes her standard can-i-take-this-to-school test. If it can fit in her bag? - it's going in (lol) Anyway, the ring will fit in v.nicely with the other purple 'bits' I have... Don't laugh! We don't like liquorice, so pretty soon purple will be the only colour left in the bowl... instant decoration! My purse. Bought it 'cos I knew it would last for ages, and it's big enough to carry lip-balm, keys, memory stick and more ;0) 'Twas a valentines gift... many moons ago 'purple-ish' books...? ;0) I won't push it by uploading a pic of the blackcurrant juice in our kitchen (lol) The good thing about colour trends is that we can appreciate different colours - give each one some recognition. • the 'tiny seeds' &'mighty oaks' in all our gardens

I hope you’re all well, (and enjoying the extra hour in the day). I have to say that the 3d rooms are looking really good! I’ve only been able to log-on a couple of times a week, but usually there’s no less than 20pages to go through, and I am totally loving your styles!! The nice rooms are like… R E A L L Y nice; bold rooms are… super-bold; elegant rooms are just… SO elegant! The only down-side for me is that a few of my 'relationships' can become somewhat strained, after about an hour of rating… “Why can’t you be more like THAT?” I ask. “Why can’t you just love me as I am?!” says My Bedroom…. “YEAH!” screams My Wallet, “Love it as it is.” (lol) We’ll work it out, I’m sure: they might ‘speak’, but I’m the one with hands and feet. ;0) Yesterday, BBC Parliament was broadcasting a conference called, ‘Pathways to Peace: Festival of Politics, Spirituality, and Peace’; I think it was live from Edinburgh, and I caught it purely by chance. (This is not as big a digression as it seems, more »

  • What's success?

An American businessman was at the pier of a small coastal Mexican village when a small boat with just one fisherman docked. Inside the small boat were several large yellow fin tuna. The American complimented the Mexican on the quality of his fish and asked how long it took to catch them. The Mexican replied, "Only a little while." "You're such an excellent fisherman," said the American. "Why don't you stay out longer and catch more fish?" The Mexican said he had enough to support his family's immediate needs. The American then asked, "But what do you do with the rest of your time?" The fisherman said, "I sleep late, fish a little, play with my children, take a siesta with my wife, and stroll into the village each evening where I sip wine and play guitar with my amigos. I have a full and busy life, senor." The American said, "I am a Harvard MBA, and could help you. If you spent more time fishing, you could buy a bigger boat. Then you could buy several boats. • exhibition: designers might also find interesting

NETTIE HORN is pleased to present Dysfuncadelia, the first UK solo show of artist Debbie Lawson featuring an elaborate installation of sculptural works as well as a selection of inlaid wood panels. Lawson creates atypical environments through the use of found objects, household furniture and domestic materials such as "Persian" carpet and wood. A new hybrid meaning is found in the use of these « kitsch » materials in her sculptures and installations away from their inherent decorative quality. Tinged by a collective and personal nostalgia linked to memories of the domestic interior and suburban life, these humdrum objects become part of a "mise en scène" which is created thanks to the narrative formed by our own history and memories. The encounter between the material and the object reveals a dramatic other life according to what the artist saw as its own particular aspirational quality. For her solo exhibition, Lawson turns both rooms of the gallery into two more »

  • Real vs. Genuine

Inside my mind, at the back, on one side; inside that wilderness growing, I find my ideals wither. My senses hide from war, greed, deception - side by side with poverty, illness, and an endless tide of questions, and answers, religions, and tribes, and laws, bureaucracy, processing times, fake beggars, false prophets, abuses outlined, political correctness: incorrect and contrived. With morals diluted; morale is resigned. With guilt and with failure and shame, I collide. I stumble and fall. I feel weak, I feel blind. But circumstance later… perception refined; I locate my senses and somehow I glide… The wilderness fades away, anger-deprived. And there in this place near the front, to one side; I think of things simply - things funny and kind. Or gestures made lovingly - absent of pride. A promise fulfilled, a smile that is wide. Fresh, ripe avocado (with two chicken thighs), or kids’ songs in the playground, or a dog who can guide. Two lovers entwined… All things in good more »

  • for the love of monet

http://money.aol.co.uk/rich-lists/monet-monet-monet-in-a-rich/article/20080625012809990001 I had to laugh when I saw this witty headline (lol) :0) But are these valuations really justified...? I think there's a specific sum that you're meant to do to work out price, isn't there? Something like, materials + labour + packaging + brand-value + value of how rare it is + plus profit...? ...no, I think I'll leave the sums alone... Maybe, when you have that amount of money - you can forget about sums and just make it simple: half-a-mil, round it up to a-cool-mil, or do both at the same time to make it 1.5-mil? (lol).... The mind boggles ;0) But sometimes, it's not even funny :0(. With a loaf of bread in Zimbabwe costing around 50million Zimbabwean dollars, just a few months ago (I don't think I'll ever forget that), it reminds me that money does have relative-value in most situations, but no intrinsic value of its own. • dont hurry. dont worry. do your best & let it rest

A bit like Greer, I'm back in the (drawing) saddle and it's been a bit of a wobbly start :0) With attempt-one of my self-portrait resembling a full-lipped man, and the second attempt looking alot more like me... but me, about 10yrs older......... I'll be starting over again tomorrow.... It made me think that it's funny (haha) and a little funny (peculiar) how, when you have big achievements where you've broken out of your comfort zone, or really disciplined yourself, you've worked hard and finally reached your goal... it feels as though, if you can do that then you can do anything! But as soon as you start on a new project and start taking those initial first-steps, you're like a beginner again... hoping, learning, growing again (in the back of your mind, thinking here-we-go-again) ;0) Catching-up reading MyDeco blogs, I can't help but feel positive... There's been good news (which is scarce in the actual news, these days)  and it's inspiring (and refreshing) to hear about more »
