ATCT-81001 : Elm Daybed
| Shanxi, circa 1900 This daybed is not quite as large as most, making it more suitable in western homes to be used as a coffee table. It has the classic chunky horse hoof feet – more common in the later Qing period as opposed to the more delicate feet seen on Ming furniture – and a waisted top. The rattan panel on the top of the table is a most likely a more recent addition. The original top may well have been woven. The elm frame has been lacquered in a rich, dark brown – worn to give a nice patina. This is a beautiful table that would be a wonderful addition to any sitting room.
