ATCT-P82041 : Rosewood Altar Table
| Beijing, circa 1900 This large table is from Beijing, and is made from a type of rosewood. The wood does not have the attractive, wide grain of the more common elm but is considered more precious and has a lovely tone and colour. The table has 'everted flanges' at each end of the top surface, denoting a religious use, so this would have been used either in a home or temple as an altar table. The cabriole legs and apron are beautifully carved and make this table very different in style from the majority of altar tables from the same period. Please note that this piece is not currently in stock but can be included on our next shipment of antiques for delivery estimated in February 2009. A deposit is required if you wish to reserve it. |
