Coulson Macleod is a UK-based art business specialising in the design & production of handmade typography- & illustration-based artwork printed onto natural & reclaimed materials including wood, stone, fabric, & recycled paper.
We design our own frames, which are individually handmade in the UK by traditional craftsmen. Any imperfections in the material are retained to add character to the finished pieces. This way no two pieces are ever exactly alike, & every artwork produced is unique. Naturally.
We use modern & traditional design processes to create our artwork. We love the distressed effects that relief-printing can produce & therefore use a lot of hand-stamping in our work, in addition to stenciling & good old-fashioned drawing. Invariably these elements are then put together digitally to produce our finished designs.
We believe in supporting our local economy, so our frames are produced by various artisan businesses, all within 15 minutes of our office. And where possible we source our materials - wood, stone, etc - from within the UK, or we buy them from UK-based businesses.
We try to be green. We use recycled & reclaimed materials for the majority of our artwork, & we predominantly use a UV printing process, which is toxin-free & doesn't produce waste ink, & is therefore much more environmentally friendly than solvent-based print processes.
