Roost Living
Roost Living simultaneously holds edgy and elegant products for the home.

mydeco.com in conversation with Laura, from Roost Living.

How did you come up with the name Roost Living?
I wanted to evoke a cosy homely feeling, hence the name Roost. I suppose it was influenced a bit by the saying, home to Roost, and Ruling the Roost.

What's the ethos behind your brand?
Roost Living is all about the handmade, the special, items for our home that tell a story. And all the designers I work with are based right here in the UK. More and more I am working directly with designers, commissioning one off or specially commissioned ranges.

What do you look for when sourcing products for your store?
I try to live by William Morris’ motto ‘Have nothing in your house that you do not know to be useful, or believe to be beautiful’ so when I’m choosing designers to work with and products to stock, I always keep this in mind.

Your products are very special, do you have a favourite piece?
I love all of the products I sell, but at the moment my favourite product is Fliff’s Golden Deer Butter Dish. It’s a bit wacky, but elegantly beautiful.

In your opinion, what makes your products stand apart from the run of the mill?
I like to think of the Roost Living collection as gently edgy, and much of my collection is exclusive, so you just won’t find them elsewhere.

What do you think it is that makes Rory Dobner's illustrations so popular?
Rory is exceptionally talented, and his drawing is reminiscent of a time gone by, as well as being modern and just a bit edgy.

Would you like to open a physical shop in the future?
I always dreamed of opening my own shop, but now that I’ve started online, I think I’ll stick with it for the time being. It suits me perfectly, and gives me flexibility to spend as much time with my kids as I can.
