Zuzunaga
Colourful, beautiful products that encapsulate the dynamic nature of modern city living.

mydeco.com in conversation with Christian Zuzunaga

Where did you study?
I studied a BA in Typo/Graphic Design at the London College of Communication, followed by an MA at the Royal College of Art.

What's the ethos behind your brand?
Zuzunaga's mission is to create beautiful, colourful products that encapsulate the dynamic nature of modern-day city living. We uphold sustainable and ethical ways of working, valuing handmade craft over mass-produced items.

Why do you think it’s important to create colourful designs?
I strongly believe in the restorative and enriching power of colour and seek to explore how it can be used as a means of evoking emotion and counterbalancing negative ways of seeing and thinking. The therapeutic values of colour have been widely documented, yet many of us still live in a world of black, white and grey.

Where do you find your inspiration?
Our collections are inspired by architecture, urban environments, Eastern and Western philosophy, alchemy, anthropology, sociology and the psychology of Carl Gustav Jung.

How would you sum up your personal style in three words?
Meaningful, Colourful and Present.

Can you explain a little more about how you make your products?
A photograph of an urban environment often provides a starting point for a new design. This analogue image is transformed into a digital one, which is then manipulated to create designs that are then applied to products using different materials, printing and manufacturing techniques.
