When we started... it was extremely difficult to find product to fit our criteria which is organic, eco, fair-trade.
It is still difficult as... each product needs to be checked and researched. For example, we check that a non-toxic glue or wood isn’t laced with something nasty. Is the wood an FSC wood?
We don’t want... a product full of formaldehyde or PVC packaging. PVC is the most toxic of the plastics to make and the most difficult to recycle.
If a pair of jeans are £3... you have to think, why are they so cheap? What are the producers getting paid? It’s rather like Clark Kent and Superman, you have to consider what's going on behind the scenes. The people making it didn’t necessarily have a good time in the process.
Consider... the conditions of the people making the goods. You could have been one of those people.
I absolutely love... my eco media player (£129.95). It has the double benefit of saving financially on the batteries and knowing that I don’t have to throw them into landfill. I actually used to feel sick buying batteries.
When you wind up a radio... it makes you realise the power of energy because it involves a direct physical relationship. Eco tech gadgets are a fast-growing arena.
Eco-fashion... has increased substantially recently. Popular designs include re-used products utilising materials which would otherwise get dumped, like our sandals made from seatbelts (£39.95).
It can’t make sense... to have a throwaway society. I started to think that there has to be better solutions that are not quick fixes. What are the chemicals – what are they doing to me and my planet? It’s the planet and people and animals – they all count.
