Wayne Hemingway launches 'pop up shop'

The creative team behind Hemingway Design have launched a new 'pop up shop' to provide artists and creators with a free temporary space from which to sell their products.

Husband and wife team Wayne and Gerardine Hemingway created KiosKiosK as part of the Design Museum's Super Contemporary exhibition, which commissioned 15 designers to come up with ways to improve life in London.

The first KiosKiosK is to be established outside the capital's City Hall from July to September and will offer a rent-free retail space to people selling art, ceramics, fashion and homewares.

Eventually, it is hoped that the concept - which is also being supported by London mayor Boris Johnson - will 'pop up' in towns and cities across the UK.

The Hemingways were inspired to create KiosKiosK by their own humble origins; their first company, Red or Dead, started off in one of the low-cost units at Camden and Kensington Markets.

Wayne Hemingway said: 'It was our formative experience and the opportunities provided by places such as Kensington Market that led us to the KiosKiosK idea.'

He called on anyone with creative products that could 'wow the world' to take advantage of the temporary kiosk space this summer.
