Make a plan for redecorating, homeowners urged

Homeowners who are thinking about redecorating should make sure they have a well thought-out plan to ensure it goes smoothly.

This is the advice of Mary Carol Garrity of The Tasmania Mercury, who said that doing so will avoid mismatched furniture and items that do not fit into the newly-styled room.

Firstly, the expert said, a detailed layout should be drawn up for larger furnishings such as sofas and dining tables, as well as what colours are to go on the walls.

Then, the secondary furnishings should be factored in, such as occasional tables and artwork, Ms Garrity said.

Finally, the finishing touches should be accounted for and purchased in order to make the room feel homely.

'You'll know your room is finished for now when it wraps its arms around you every time you walk in,' insisted the interiors expert.

To create a detailed floorplan, the 3D Room Planner tool on the mydeco website could be extremely useful. It has been used by over 10,000 people since it was launched and allows homeowners to try out different colour schemes and other ideas virtually.
