Brits love DIY - but fear can put them off

While DIY is something of a national pastime on Bank Holidays in the UK, it seems some people are avoiding their jobs for fear of getting it wrong.

A new study conducted by Bosch found that 78 per cent of people like getting down to business with their tool kits, with young adults the most likely to try a task themselves around the home.

Indeed, over one-third of 16 to 24-year-olds said they felt enjoyment while managing to create something new as part of their home decor.

However, a whopping 48 per cent said they frequently avoid carrying out something DIY-related due to concerns over their own abilities.

"We Brits are nothing if not resourceful. When it comes to the crunch, especially in hard economic times, we are willing to have a go at anything," commented Bosch spokesperson Chris Tidy.

For those feeling the fear when it comes to DIY, he recommended getting hold of some good power tools and following their simple instructions to make sure you can't go wrong.

A really useful power tool could be the PSR 14 4-2 Cordless Drill Driver from Bosch at B&Q, which you can get through mydeco for a credit crunch-friendly £89.98.
