The boutique hotel chic fashion in interior design circles, which took off in the past decade, is here to stay.
According to Toronto-based designer William MacDonald, the movement transformed the way people looked at their own homes.
He told Kelowna.com: "People really loved [the boutique hotel look] and manufacturers realised that it was easy to replicate in a cheap way, so the Zen and boutique hotel trend just kept rolling along."
Mr MacDonald said the fashion was coupled with a rising demand for souped-up kitchens and made-over loft spaces.
He also claimed that it was Swedes that paved the way for everyone to become an interior design expert.
And for the future?
Mr MacDonald thinks there will be a return to 80s decadence, with the introduction of gold, velvet and jewel-toned decor.
His comments back up those made by the Guardian's Huma Qureshi, who claimed earlier this year that minimalism is dead.
