  • Sidetable-C

    2. Cardboard chic

Cost–effective, environmentally–friendly and surprisingly sturdy – cardboard is enjoying its moment in the spotlight as the material of choice this autumn. One of the most innovative designs we’ve seen is Farm’s brilliant Sidetable–C (£36).

  • Pink / Raspberry Melange Mohair Throw

    3. Layer upon layer

Don’t restrict layering to your wardrobe; this trend is just as versatile in the home. Experiment with texture and colour – think mohair throws and silk cushions over opulent damask upholstery. We covet Heal’s beautiful mohair throws (£59.50).

  • Caroline B Designs "Hollywood"lampshade

    4. Beau tie

Feeling girly? Bows inject a flirty feminine touch to your home. Try bow–trimmed cushions and lampshades, or use large silk bows as tie–backs. Give a room an instant update with this lampshade (£55) from Caroline B Designs.

  • Sapphire 5 wallpaper

    5. Get bejewelled style

If you like to have your breakfast at Tiffany’s, you’ll love this season’s jewel–themed hues. Try using Emerald, Sapphire and Amethyst as accents, or go all–out with eye–catching wallpaper, such as Dominic Crinson’s Sapphire 5 design (£62.95). • Lace Square Vase

    6. Feeling lacy

Ignore Granny’s net curtains and opt for something far sexier. From ceramics to wallpaper, lace is getting dazzling new life. John Lewis’ Lace Square Vase (£25), will definitely be on our mantelpiece this autumn. See more lace lace ideas.

  • Grove Garden Print Drum Shade

    7. Back to nature

When the weather turns chilly, it’s time to bring the outdoors in. Opt for prints with leaves, birds and flowers to brighten up gloomy autumn evenings. We've got our eyes on this Grove Garden Print Drum Shade (£57) from Graham and Green. These graphic leaf prints are all the rage.

  • Scribble Rug Black & White

    8. Monochrome home

'Black and White never goes out of style, but that hasn’t stopped designers from giving it a fresh twist,' says Elle Decoration. The monochrome look has been revamped this season with geometric shapes and bold patterns. This Scribble Rug, (£775) from Heal’s will instill your home with graphic panache.

  • Pink & Silver LOVE Letters

    9. Love letters

Thanks to the Sex and the City girls, Love is this season’s buzz word. Did you spot the cool wall hanging in Carrie’s entrance hall? Why not wear your heart on your wall with these fantastic pink and silver letters (£15) from Not on the High Street?

  • Bloom table runner

    10. A cut above

We don't normally like to pick holes, but we’re willing to make an exception for autumn’s cut–out trend. Place table runners and rugs over bright backgrounds, or opt for cut–out candle holders and let the light shine through. Selina Rose’s Bloom table runner (£99) will make your dinner parties the chicest in town.

Great tips, but you seem to have missed out Gothic? Surely this is a massive autumn trend?

Gothic is all over the high street right now but I'm not sure it translates so well in the home (although Supernice does it well). What does anyone else think?
