Design ‘It-Girl’ Tara Bernerd (1971-, British) attended the London Film School before working with Philippe Starck at property development company, Yoo. She set up her own architecture and design consultancy, Target Living, in 2002, and has since exploded onto the interiors scene.

What's she famous for?

Space planning and property development, plus being an interior designer to the stars. Daughter of a property magnate, she won the 2004 Andrew Martin International Interior Designer of the Year Award for her work on The Old Bank apartment in London, and launched her first furniture collection, Tara B, for Andrew Martin.

Mixing textured fabrics, like velvet and tweed, she puts her success down to an intuitive understanding of space and a passion for colour. This lady may have been raised with a silver spoon, but these day’s she’s all about the hard work. “At the end of every week I need to know I've made progress with my projects, and that I've dispersed some pollen and spread the word about our work,' she says. Busy bee.

Her elegant yet practical interiors; Bernerd is a fan of Ralph Lauren’s attention to detail. She gave B&Q a trendy facelift with their ‘It’ furniture range and spiced up some Berkeley Homes apartments. Even Center Parcs didn't escape the Bernerd treatment- she refurbished their Woodland Lodges in 2007.

Insider fact

A big fan of the original Star Wars trilogy, Bernerd has admitted to being “a Jedi at heart”. May the force be with her.

Sentence to drop in at a dinner party?

Expensive art can be such a hoopla. Bernerd and her husband reportedly bought black and white prints of Rome from B&Q to remind them of their wedding in the Italian capital. And if it's good enough for her – who are we to argue?
