Tips for Home Security
Posted by Inspired Dwellings 8th May
In category Plumbing & Electrical
Remember that story a few years ago that made the newspapers? The one about a man on a beach in Spain who called the police in England to report that his house was being burgled? Well, far from having a laugh (as the police might understandably have thought) that rather forward-thinking man had installed the kind of home security system we specialise in. The coppers caught him red-handed and disaster was averted. Based on the happy ending of this story, here are a few facts about out security systems to ponder: • CCTV cameras can be installed both inside and outside your home • When away, you can check on your house from anywhere in the world, from Australia to Greenland • On a business trip? Check in to see how the kids are getting on without you • Our cameras can send pictures to your mobile phone If we have caught your imagination enough to want to know more, please do give us a call on...and we will make an appointment to come and see you to discuss your individual requirements.
The effects of too much yin energy
Posted by Dagmar Holubova 14th July
In category Plan my Room
As a general rule there should not be an excess of yin symbols in the home. This happens when the colour scheme and decor appear resoudingly feminine, with excessive use of all yin colours which tend to be dark, sombre and cold. This is not conductive to growth and development. Dark-coloured paintings and dimmed lighting through the house are thus to be avoided. Rooms should not be too cold, and there should not be a complete absence of sounds and music. When yin energy dominates, precious yang energy gets suppressed. Excessively yin homes also suffer from a lack of the male essence.
sympathetic storage

Instead of using cheap plastic boxes for storage that is going to be on display, try hunting out attractive second-hand items to contain things. I have a couple of vintage suitcases - one sits on top of my wardrobe holding flip-flops & one is in the study full of old letters. I have hatboxes for scarves/accessories & one as a sewing kit.Old wooden cigar boxes are good for jewellery & I also have a wooden hamper box for CDs. Also look out for second-hand glassware. Instead of having ugly plastic containers on show in the bathroom, fill glass decanters/bottles with bubble bath instead (you could even be really sneaky & fill these with the cheap stuff & squirrel the decent stuff away in the cupboard for yourself with no-one being any wiser!!)

Using the 3d 'Plan Your Room' function
Posted by LK Today 13th May
In category Plan my Room
If you have or would like to create an interior on the 'Plan Your Room' function, its important to get the right camera angle to show off your hard work to its full potential. If you have designed your room with a certain feature (like a fireplace, or elaborate piece of furniture, etc) which brings the room together, the camera angle should be altered to accomadate it. I like to change the camera angle to around 'eye height' to get a real sense that you are within the space. For new members: The camera angle is easliy altered on the right hand side of the screen, by dragging the camera up and down, or rotating it in the direction you would like it to go.

if , as I have, you are face with a wall covered in holes with rawl plugs thanks to previous occupants fetish for cheap shelving- the easiest way to pull them out with minimum damage to the wall is to half screw in a screw and pull the whole lot out with pliers- et voila!
Ideas for new creations on Mydeco!

If you need some new ideas or inspiration for new rooms try writing a list of rooms you'd like to create. I did this and was amazed at how long the list got and even though I have so many rooms, I'm still not done! I sometimes think of celebrities I like and know a little about and create a room around their style. I think about peoples houses I've been to and choose rooms I like and try to recreate them. When I go to restaurants or hotels I look around the room and see if there's anything that catches my eye. These places, more often than not are created by experienced designers. If you need a change from rooms in the home, why not have a go at creating a restaurant, hotel room, theatre, cinema, shop, gym, office, garden, park or even the interior for a garage or shed! Hope this helps all you budding designers out there! Bye 4 now! Kel!x

Mounting Portfolio

In category General Design
I was told this by a tutor when I was puuting together my Tex Print portfolio: When mounting up portfolio work, stick a strip of cellotape on the back of your work before attaching double sided tape. This ensures easy removal of your work when the paper starts to get a bit tatty and you want to remount it.
